VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are a vital role in making the Natural Living Expo a fantastic and fun-filled event for everyone.
We have many options for service:
- Flyer and poster distribution: posters and flyers are available now at Campbell’s Nutrition (42nd and University in Des Moines). The store hours are 9-7 Mon-Thurs, 9-6 Fri & 9-5 Sat. Just ask the cashiers for the print material and email us a list of where you have taken them to!
- These can be posted on notice boards at businesses and venues throughout the area.
- Be sure to ask permission before posting.
Set-up on Friday, March 26:
- Helping vendors get their booths set up can mean helping to carry boxes and materials, hang banners, open doors and direct vendors to the expo area at the Polk County Convention Complex (501 Grand Avenue in Des Moines).
- Three shifts: 11:45 am to 3:00 pm (6 people); 2:45 to 5:30 (8 people); and 5:00 to 7:00 (8 people).
Expo Weekend – Greeters
- Greeters are posted around the entrances to the expo building to direct people to the classrooms and vendor area. People will also ask where the ATM machine and bathrooms are, and where to find such-and-such a vendor.
- Greeters in the classroom area will need to be able to direct attendees to the appropriate classrooms.
- Greeters at the information table on the expo floor will describe prizes and help people sign up for the drawings.
Expo Weekend – Vendor Relations
- Throughout the expo and Food & Fashion ecoparty, volunteers will circulate throughout the floor to help vendors with needs (materials, questions, an extra pair of hands).
- Basically, volunteers who help with vendor relations are like runners who bring communication between the vendors and Angela/Gretchen. We want our vendors to feel cared for!
Expo Weekend – Stage Crew
- The Creative Living stage features a rotating lineup of entertainers. Volunteers here will help acts set up and tear down.
End of Show
- Tear-down: At the end of the expo, volunteers can help vendors get packed up and loaded to head back into the world.
- We’ll also need to round up materials like discarded programs, dropped mittens and loaned items (projectors, easels, etc.).
Expo shifts are as follows:
Saturday, March 27
9:15 to 12:15 (10 volunteers)
12:00 to 3:00 (10 volunteers)
3:00 to 6:00 (8 volunteers)
5:15 to 8:15 (10 volunteers) for Food & Fashion ecoparty; anyone who can stay to the end is welcome!)
Sunday, March 28
10:15 to 1:30 (10 volunteers)
1:00 to 4:30 (10 volunteers)
Remember that volunteer t-shirts will be available for you to wear; details about where to pick them up will follow. When shifts change, whatever you can do to help train in your replacement is much appreciated. Also, if you notice things that need doing or could go smoother, please let us know so that we can continue to improve the expo.
